#72JS was delivered new in 1932 to its first owner Prince Ali Khan (1911-1960) at the Ritz Hotel, London and registered GW5970. Later it received another registration OXR215.

This fixed-head sedanca coupé, by Thrupp & Maberly is elegant, with particularly well balanced lines. It can seat four people but actually it was meant for two: his Highness and his wife, Princess Tajudaulah, the daughter of Lord Churston.
Prince Ali Khan kept it 2 years, driving 30,000 miles. then it passed to Mr Weston of Hereford who kept it until 1949, and to a retired army colonel who sold it to Richard Lowe in 1951 who took it to Venezuela. In 1954 the car returned to the UK.
Richard Lowe owned it well into the late 1990's when it was bought the Hon. Michael D. Kadoorie.
The wings were later modified and if you ever come across early pictures of 72JS you will notice that two louvres have been added into the scuttle so as to meet the bonnet in a "carried right through" effect. The chromed waist moulding breaks the black mass of the car in two and enhances the sporty lines of the design. The running boards are reduced to a step and the twin spare wheels are carried at the rear to off-set the long bonnet. Surely this is one of my all-times favourites.

SPECIAL REQUEST : If you'd like to see your RR coachbuilt car posted on this web site next year, please send me a profile jpg (min. width 600 px) and two other shots - preferably 3/4 front and rear views (min. width 290 px). Pictures of the interior are also welcome. You do not need be a Ghost Club member to participate.
