#GLZ39 was bought new by the Honorable John Hugh Hare, the third son of the 4th Earl of Listowel of Little Blakenham, Surrey, at a cost of £ 1,548 14s 3d and registered AUL439. In 1934, he married Beryl Nancy Pearson, the daughter of the 2nd Viscount Cowdray and in 1963, J.H. Hare was himself elevated to the title of 1st Viscount Blakenham by H.M. Queen Elizabeth II. He died in 1982.

The Gurney Nutting body was one of 23 almost identical bodies erected on the 20/25HP chassis to the famous "Owen" D.38 design and was delivered through H.R.Owen Ltd. who owned Gurney Nutting.
This design was also used on the Phantom II chassis and it is one of the most coveted RR body style of all times.

When Derek Harris acquired it, it was not in a very good condition and it was decided that it would undergo a very thorough restoration. As a consequence, it was dismantled down to the last bolt and nut and completely reassembled to the highest standards. When I saw the car in 1996, it was just out of the workshop but it looked just right, without the shiny gloss of over-restorations often seen elsewhere.
